Milkis Popsicles with Strawberry Boba: Inspired by Naruto: Shippuden

Inspired by Naruto: Shippuden, I'm making the popsicle that Jiraiya shares with Naruto. I decided to make Milkis popsicles with strawberry boba. They are so easy to make and have a great yogurt/milky flavour! Jiraiya and Naruto had a really wonderful and special relationship so I'm happy to make something to represent it!
Prep Time 25 minutes
Freeze Time 4 hours
Course Dessert, Snack
Cuisine Japanese
Servings 6

Ingredients

For the Popsicle Base

  • 570 ml Milkis Soda
  • 3 drops Food colouring blue

For the Strawberry Boba

  • 1/4 cup homemade strawberry jelly my recipe linked here: https://glutenfreewithme.com/peanut-butter-jelly-cupcakes-inspired-by-spy-x-family/
  • 100 g mochiko glutinous rice flour

Instructions

For the Strawberry Boba

  • Heat syrup in small saucepan until warm, and add in half of the mochiko. Mix until completely dissolved.
  • Remove the pan from the heat, and mix in the rest of the mochiko.
  • Turn the mixture onto a mochiko dusted surface, and knead until a smooth dough forms. It will eventually come together, just be careful at first as it will be hot to start.
  • Divide the dough into 4 sections, roll into a thin log, and cut into small cubes. Make them smaller than you think, they will puff up when cooked. Roll the cubes into little balls and place them in a bowl. Toss with extra mochiko to make sure they don't stick together.
  • Use a mesh sieve to shake off excess mochiko and either use immediately or freeze in an airtight container.
  • Add pearls into a medium pot of boiling water, and cook until they float to the surface. This process should only take a few minutes. Boba will be puffy and translucent.
  • Rinse in cold water and let rest to firm up some.

For the Milkis Popsicles

  • Add food colouring to the Milkis and mix until you reach the perfect colour.
  • Pour the popsicle mix into the molds. If adding the boba, pour mix half way up the mold, add the boba and freeze until semi firm. Add more boba and top with more popsicle mix. This will prevent all the boba from dropping to the bottom of the mold.
  • Place the sticks/holders on top, and freeze until solid. Probably about 4 hours minimum depending on how cold your freezer is.
  • Break in half, and enjoy!
