Cuisine Japanese
- 3 large eggs
- 3 Tbsp milk I use unsweetened soy
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- dash of nutmeg
- 1 tsp cinnamon plus more for topping
- pinch of salt
- 6 slices bread - brioche is ideal gluten free if necessary
- unsalted butter
- assorted jams strawberry, plum (or ume), orange marmalade
In a small casserole dish, whisk eggs together. Then add milk, vanilla, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk again until smooth.
Cut bread into thirds so you have fingers. Soak a slice of bread in egg milk mixture for a few seconds on each side. You don't want your bread to get too soggy but you want it saturated
Grease a frying pan with spray or butter, add slices of your soaked bread and fry on both sides until golden.
When the french toast is cooked, remove from the heat and top ith desired toppings. I like mixing adding both the strawberry jam and orange marmalade, a bit of butter and cinnamon on top.
If you are channeling Denji's chaos then top with as much of everything as you'd like! Don't forget to make a mess!
