Winner of the best new series at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and numerous best VA awards, I had to celebrate with an iconic dish from Chainsaw Man. So today we’re finally making Denji’s toast from Chainsaw Man!

Of course, the recipe is very straight forward and easy to follow along from the anime. Since Denji thinks that this is the best breakfast, I had to try it.

And yeah… it’s a lot. Super sweet with lots of competing flavours. It’s not exactly bad but I wouldn’t be running to eat it either.

So here’s my take on Denji’s recipe: we’re making French toast! This is my classic French toast base so it’s really easy to make. We start with a simple custard with lots of the cinnamon that Denji loves. Considering the mess that he made at Aki’s, I couldn’t help but make a bit of a mess of my own.

Top the French toast with 2 of the jams of your choice. I think the strawberry and orange work really well together but choose what you’d prefer!

Denji's Toast: Inspired by Chainsaw Man (gluten free)

Inspired by Chainsaw Man, I’m making Denji's ultimate breakfast toast! Starting with the original chaotic version and then my own French toast version. Using a simple custard base and topping with 2 jams, we channel Denji's excited destructive energy while enjoying a sweet and easy brunch. Which would you try?

Servings 2

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 Tbsp milk I use unsweetened soy
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon plus more for topping
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 slices bread - brioche is ideal gluten free if necessary
  • unsalted butter
  • assorted jams strawberry, plum (or ume), orange marmalade

Instructions

  • In a small casserole dish, whisk eggs together. Then add milk, vanilla, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk again until smooth.
  • Cut bread into thirds so you have fingers. Soak a slice of bread in egg milk mixture for a few seconds on each side. You don't want your bread to get too soggy but you want it saturated
  • Grease a frying pan with spray or butter, add slices of your soaked bread and fry on both sides until golden.
  • When the french toast is cooked, remove from the heat and top ith desired toppings. I like mixing adding both the strawberry jam and orange marmalade, a bit of butter and cinnamon on top.
  • If you are channeling Denji's chaos then top with as much of everything as you'd like! Don't forget to make a mess!
