Initially, I had hoped to get this list together and out to you before Halloween this year. Unfortunately, it took me longer to hear back from all the companies, and I wanted to make sure I had a nice and full list before sharing. Halloween has passed for this year… But that’s ok! The good news is that we can definitely enjoy candy and chocolate any day of the year! Plus, I’m pretty sure we are all in need of some sweet treats right about now!
So, I reached out to many of the large candy companies in Canada and the U.S. to ask them about their gluten free offerings. If you are someone who is often buying gluten free products, then you are likely used to budgeting extra time on your grocery trips to read ingredient labels. If you are new to this experience, that’s ok and welcome! You are not alone. My hope is that this list will make your search less stressful and get you to the goodies quicker.
I have separated this article into two sections for gluten free candies; Canada and the U.S.
Below, you will find either products that are explicitly gluten free, as stated by their manufacturers or disclaimers about allergens in their products. I wanted to make this list as clear and simple as possible, but I also didn’t want to withhold information that could affect your decisions.
This list does not cover ALL gluten free candies, but I tried to get answers for the most common ones.
Please read the labels before purchasing! Manufacturing practices may change, and if you have specific questions regarding a product, you should reach out to the manufacturer directly to clarify. When it comes to “may contains” lists in the allergen label, please use your judgment. Everyone reacts to gluten differently, so it’s your decision as to how risky you want to be.
Side note, I love this Halloween font in the header, these adorable little decorations, and the crazy colored candy so I’m leaving them in for now! I did remove the animated banner with a flying witch though… Next year!

A food bearing a gluten-free claim does not contain the protein from wheat, rye, barley, spelt, kamut, triticale, farina, vital gluten semolina, malt vinegar or protein derivatives of these foods. If gluten is present due to exposure to these grains, then the level of gluten must be less than 20 parts per million.
For your convenience, the products listed below have been fully evaluated and qualify as gluten-free using standards established by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The best way to determine if our products contain a gluten ingredient is to read our product label. This label includes an accurate, current listing of the ingredients in our products. Because, on occasion, the list of ingredients can change, we strongly encourage you to check the ingredient label on the package each time before you make a purchase.

Disclaimer: “At this time, all of our confections are gluten free. We do not use wheat, barley, rye, oats, triticale, spelt or any of their components and that includes our dusting on our conveyor belts. We do use corn and soy products in the manufacturing of our products.”
Disclaimer: “Our consumers’ safety is our top priority at HARIBO. Part of ensuring that safety involves consistently testing our products for all major allergens.
Our gummi product recipe does not contain wheat, however, our manufacturing facilities around the world use different suppliers and some ingredients are derived from wheat. To reflect that, we have made a label change on our product packs as an additional safety measure. Out of an abundance of caution, we cannot guarantee, therefore we do not certify our products as gluten-free.”
All: Except licorice
Note: According to Welch’s, the licorice candy is made in a separate facility and therefore does not come into contact with their other products.
Disclaimer: “At Mars Canada Inc., we’re committed to ensuring that consumers have access to the information they need to make informed decisions about our products. Your trust in our brands is important to us. That’s why we ensure that any of the top 10 allergens in Canada that are part of our recipes are clearly listed on our product labels. The list of ingredients shows what the product is made of. We recommend that consumers with known allergies, or those responsible for their care, always read the list of ingredients prior to consuming any of our products. The ingredient statement on the package provides the most accurate and up to date information about that product. If the allergen you are allergic to is present on the label, then you should not eat the product.
Regarding our ‘May Contain (allergen)’ statement on our labels, the safety and well-being of all consumers in our absolute priority. We do take great care to maintain the integrity of our products. However, on occasion we do use the same manufacturing equipment to make different products. We will only use a “May Contain (allergen)” statement when, despite extensive cleaning, we are unable to eliminate the allergen from crossing over into a non-allergen containing product. We also follow the Canadian Food Inspection Agency policy which requires food manufacturers to clearly disclose the top ten allergens – peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, milk, eggs, wheat & triticale, soy, sulphites, mustard, fish and shellfish (crustaceans) – whenever they may be present.
Although gluten is not an allergen, we do ensure that all sources of gluten are clearly identified in both the ingredients declaration and, when required, through the pre-cautionary “May contain” statement on our product labels.
Unfortunately, we do not have an active list of all of our gluten free products due to the fact that the ingredients within our products are subject to change. The ingredient statement on each wrapper/package is the best source for this information. Food Allergy Canada advises consumers to rely on ingredient labels, rather than lists that can become outdated when products change.”

Disclaimer: “We offer many gluten free products under the MIKE AND IKE®, HOT TAMALES®, PEEPS®, GOLDENBERG’S® PEANUT CHEWS® and JUST BORN® brands, and we are in the process of updating package labels to include gluten free statements where appropriate. Because product formulations can change at any time, we encourage consumers to refer to our package labels for the most up-to-date ingredient and allergen information.
