In celebration of One Piece’s 25th anniversary, here is my spin on the classic Gin and Tonic. I wanted to make something sweet and unique for the Straw Hat Pirates.

Of course, I had to serve this drink up in one of my beautiful cocktail glasses from my One Piece Wano Kuni collection. This one with Nico Robin (Orobi) on the front, since I think this is the perfect drink for her.

Homemade Sakura Cherry Blossom Syrup paired with a botanical gin (I think Japanese Craft Roku Gin is the perfect choice!), and Korean Lotte Milkis Soda makes for a fancy, but simple and delicious cocktail that will keep you wanting more!

Btw, we started collecting different one piece glasses when we were in Japan back in 2019/2020 and since we haven’t been able to go back yet, we have used @whiterabbitexpress to keep working on our collection from home by sourcing more items straight from Japan! Can’t wait to go back but we’re glad to have a service we can use to keep collecting.

Two of my favourite Gins are Roku Gin (Japanese), and Top Shelf Gin (Ontario, local). Suntory Whiskey Toki’s Roku Gin is definitely my “special” Gin bottle that I have at home. Made from Sakura flowers, yuzu peel and other botanicals, I use this one sparingly because I don’t want to get through it too quickly! Luckily, Top Shelf Gin, my other favourite is more affordable and is made locally so I can still enjoy a good cocktail when needed. I prefer using either of these Gins for this cocktail but you could use your own favourite for sure.

What is Lotte Milkis Soda?

Milkis is a popular soda from Korea that is Milk and Yoghurt flavoured. It is sweet, creamy, bubbly, and refreshing! Milkis does come in a bunch of other flavours but for this drink, I wanted to stick with the classic. I am not a soda drinker (aside from at the movie theatre), so this was a definitely a treat for me and a really nice fit for this cocktail.

This drink is so easy to make and yet feels fancy and sophisticated to me! I mean really? Sakura Cherry Blossom simple syrup? It sounds gorgeous and fancy, and it is, but it is also super simple to make. I am obsessed with the soft floral notes and slight sweetness of these blossoms!

Once the syrup is ready, add some ice to a glass of your choice (choose something fun!), pour in your syrup, gin, top with Lotte Milkis Soda, and mix.

Super easy, pretty, and addictively delicious! Hope you enjoy!

Sakura Milkis Gin Cocktail (gluten free)

In celebration of One Piece's 25th anniversary, here is my spin on the classic Gin and Tonic. Homemade Sakura Cherry Blossom Syrup paired with Japanese Gin, and Korean Lotte Milkis Soda makes for a fancy, but simple and delicious cocktail that will keep you wanting more!
Prep Time 1 day 15 minutes
Cook Time 3 minutes
Course Cocktail, Drinks
Cuisine Japanese, Korean
Servings 1 Cocktail

Ingredients

Sakura Syrup (Makes about 177ml of syrup)

  • 11 salt pickled Sakura Cherry Blossoms
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

Sakura Milkis Cocktail

  • 2 oz gin Roku Craft Gin is my favourite
  • 4 oz Lotte Milkis Soda Milk and Yoghurt Flavour
  • 1 oz Sakura syrup
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

Sakura Cherry Blossom Syrup

  • Gently rinse the salt from the Cherry Blossoms. Don’t let them sit in the water too long to avoid losing any of the flavour!
  • Bring water to an almost bowl and pour over Sakura Cherry Blossoms.
  • Let steep for about 24 hours. Strain the mixture.
  • In a small pot over medium heat, add steeped sakura water and sugar.
  • Mix until sugar is completely dissolved. (You can add a couple drops of food coloring to get a bright pink color, but I like the natural pale pink color from the sakura).
  • Let cool and then serve or store in the fridge (keeps best for about a month).

Sakura Milkis Cocktail

  • Add ice to a glass. Add the gin, simple syrup and top with milkis. Garnish with a leftover cherry blossom if desired!
