Strawberry afternoon tea in Ginza, Tokyo
We went for a Strawberry afternoon tea at the Hyatt Centric Ginza in Tokyo! It was beautiful, so delicious and completely gluten free. They often host seasonal events so you should absolutely check it out!

Inspired by Roronoa Zoro, my favourite directionally challenged swordsman! I am making a miso and soy pork filled onigiri that I believe Sanji would have absolutely made for him. Ongiri are simple, versatile, and delicious! This pork filling is bursting with umami from the miso paste, soy sauce, mirin, and garlic. Fresh fluffy rice filled with the delicious pork filling and wrapped in nori is just tooo good! You absolutely have to make it for yourselves. I’m sure that if Sanji made these for Zoro, he wouldn’t leave over a single grain of rice, and neither will you!
Inspired by Ponyo, I’m making the special ramen that Ponyo and Sosuke enjoy together! This is definitely one of my favourite Studio Ghibli films and I think everyone should see it. Shoyu ramen is very quick to make and always delicious, so with only a handful of ingredients and a few minutes, you have got to try it! Shoyu tare + ramen noodles + fresh green onions + a perfect egg + HAAAAMMM!!! = Ponyo’s perfect bowl of ramen! I know you’re going to love it, so you have to try it for yourself.
Inspired by One Piece, I’m making GEAR 5th [f]Luffy Mochi specially for our favourite rubber man and future king of the pirates! I have been so excited to finally see Gear 5th animated! Fresh mochi stuffed with a fluffy vanilla whipped cream, mixed with chopped rambutan, and a swirl of black currant jam makes for a perfect and delicious super stretchy treat to celebrate! I adore One Piece and will never stop making excuses to get excited about everything that happens in this manga/anime and will continue to create special recipes to pair with it. After all FOOD + ANIME = LOVE! 💖
Inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle, I’m making one of the most iconic breakfasts in film. Howl’s breakfast spread for Markl and Sophie. This is one of my favourite films of all time and I am so excited to finally share this creation with you. Crispy bacon (don’t let Calcifer burn it), runny eggs, fresh bread, a hunk of cheese, and a freshly steeped pot of tea. If you want to be truly authentic then you have to use a spoon to eat your eggs, and drink your tea out of a bowl. Just saying!
This may be the prettiest sandwich I’ve ever seen! While in Japan, you can get some amazing street food and this Tokyo spot should be on your list! In Harajuku Tokyo, you can get this iconic rainbow grilled cheese from Le Shiner on Takeshita Street. I had to make it at home! If you have food allergies or just aren’t in Japan but want the experience and fun of a rainbow grilled cheese, this one’s for you. Thinly shredded mozzarella cheese + food colouring, carefully arranged on buttered bread and grilled until gooey. That’s it! A delicious treat to give you a taste of Japan at home!
Inspired by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Entertainment District Arc, I’m making Tengen Uzui’s Crystal Candy. Tengen is a really fun and awesome character and I wanted to make a special treat for him. Since he is so “Flashy” and is literally dripping in crystals, I thought that crystal candies or Kohakutou would be perfect! Kohakutou is a Japanese candy made from only a few ingredients. Agar agar, sugar, water, and the flavouring of your choice. The crystal candies are easy to put together and result in a really yummy crispy shelled candy with a perfect gummy center. You have got to try them!
You have got to try Japanese Soufflé Pancakes! Light and fluffy pancakes covered in fresh strawberry jam and whipped cream. We ate them at this beautiful little place called Riz Labo Kitchen in Tokyo and we ended up going back multiple times to have more delicious pancakes! A simple recipe with a meringue base, topped with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, a generous drizzle of jam, and some powdered sugar. I swear you’ll feel like you’re at an adorable café in Tokyo while enjoying these at home!
Inspired by Hunter x Hunter, I’m making Hisoka’s Bungee Gum (Strawberry) Mochi. I love Hunter x Hunter, it’s definitely one of my favourite anime of all time and Hisoka is really awesome! I thought that stretchy fresh mochi would be a great fit for Hisoka. A light fluffy whipped cream filling, flavoured by fresh homemade strawberry jam, wrapped in soft mochi = absolute yumminess! I adore fresh mochi and could (I do) eat it all year round, but between the change in weather and strawberry season, this is a perfect treat for right now!
Inspired by the finale of Buddy Daddies, I’m making Rei Papa’s perfect French Toast. This is a classic French toast recipe. Brioche bread, soaked in custard, fried up until golden and fluffy, served along side breakfast potatoes, sausages and salad is perfection! Miri claims that Rei Papa’s French toast is the best, and it really is delicious! It’s also super quick and easy to whip up so I highly recommend making this brunch spread!
